CyberShredder is a tool that allows you to permanently erase files. Deleting files this way ensures that no one will be able to recover them, or at least, it will make it very difficult and counter-productive to even attempt to carry out the file recovery operation.
CyberShredder functions as a drop-zone for file removal. When you launch the application, a small window will appear to which you have to drag-and-drop the files that you want to erase. By default, when you drop a file onto the application, CyberShredder will do its thing and no pop-ups nor a confirmation message will appear. You can change this behavior from the settings menu. There are three different shredding methods: quick, very quick, and normal. They vary in the amount of data that they write on top of your file. The normal shredding setting is very, very quick. According to the developer's description of the app, the normal method is approved by the NSA and it uses a 7-pass algorithm.
In short, this is a free app that is incredibly fast and works well. Although it isn't the most secure solution out there, it should suffice for the average user.
